Frequently Asked Questions
We are vary happy to respond to any questions you may have about working with us individually, but here are some commonly asked questions and answers which may help you in the meantime;
-
How do we get started?
Our process usually starts with a chat over the phone, to assess which services would work best for you. We then ask you to send photos or a video of the room(s) in question and permission to have a look at your Pinterest account. We ask that you look at our Terms & Conditions, then an invoice is generated for the work to be done and we ask for a 50% deposit before we start. Once this is paid we set to work creating for you.
-
How do I pay?
We will send you an electronic invoice, via email, for the full amount of the services that you have requested. We will give you our bank details for your electronic bank transfer payment and send a receipt once the payment is received.
-
How long does the process take? How quickly can you turn around a project?
We go at your pace - if your decorator is ready and needs your colour choices asap we can usually turn things around quickly. If you have several rooms in a house to work on, need to order samples and think about palettes - we can slow the process down to suit you.
-
Do I need to have a decorator booked before I contact you?
No, you do not need to have a contractor booked, but you may want to do it at a similar time. It's good to get recommendations and research your local trades people soon after deciding to start the process. They will give you an idea of their availability and might even give you some valuable local advice about sourcing the paints etc.
-
Why do I need someone to help me with choosing paint colours?
We help many people with a wide range of reasons for coming to us - from those who do not have any fixed ideas and need help working out what they want - to those who are quite comfortable with the process but might just need some extra reassurance with how colours will work in their particular property.
-
Do I need to know what style I’m looking for before I contact you?
No, we are very happy to work with you to ensure that you are happy with the outcome - from whatever starting point. We can talk through the options for your space(s) and see what your tastes are. We will keep you in the loop with current colour trends but we are equally happy if you would like a classic or traditional look for your property.
-
Do you need to visit my property to be able to prepare the colour boards?
No, it is not necessary to visit your property. We have worked with many clients who, when they have been able to share photos/videos and floorplans, shared their ideas on media platforms like Pinterest and been able to communicate their preferences, have been very happy with the advice and outcome. We are very responsive by email and phone during the design process.
-
Is it just paint colours that you advise on? What do you include in a colour board?
As part of our colour board service we will advise on colour choice, paint finishes and where to paint your colours within a room.
-
Will I need to change the lighting when I change the paint colours in the room(s)?
Not necessarily. The lighting you have in a room may be adequate, but, things to consider are style, position, and type of light. If you opt for a darker colour palette having adequate lighting is key.
-
Can you also advise on investment purchases like designer furniture?
We are very happy to help you think about the full styling within your room(s) and this may include furniture purchases. We are able to give you a discount via a company we work with called Olsen & Baker for some classic items like Wishbone Chairs. Please do mention this at the outset as there can be lead times for some furniture items which should be considered.
-
Do you visit clients?
Yes, if you are local to St Albans we can visit you at home. Generally, however, our process works well remotely and our services have been very popular.
-
Do I need to source my own decorator?
Yes, our client base is all over the UK and Europe so we ask you to hire your own local decorator.
-
Do you recommend any Eco Friendly paints?
Yes, Farrow & Ball, Little Greene and Lick paints all have excellent eco credentials. Their paint is water based and has very low VOC levels - so very small quantities of chemicals are used.
