We are often asked about what's new and if there are any particular trends in the interior decoration world. Of course we keep a keen eye on the main paint manufacturers to see what's on offer but we are always looking at a lot of furniture, lighting and accessory retailers, not least when researching for clients.
So far, we have seen that the popular colour combinations continue to be quite earthy and natural. Warm, rich tones paired with complimentary lighter shades (see our four colour boards) seem to be a direction that a number of companies like Farrow & Ball are taking.
We are also seeing the accent wall as a more widely used feature when decorating. This can just be for interest or for an actual purpose: for achieving a depth of perception in a room, using it as a contrast against the main colour, even to using it as a way to blend something in like the television in the living room, for instance.
Painted woodwork in a complimentary shade to the room is also something we see more and more. This might be the cabinets in the kitchen, a sideboard in a dining room or a set of shelving in the living room. Done well, with a complimentary colour to the main scheme, it can make a room feel co-ordinated and well planned.
